FAQ & Tips

How do I share this doc with my team?

Click Share at the top right of the page and add your teammates’ emails. It’s also helpful to give your team a quick explainer of what the doc is. Here’s a template you can copy:

How often should my team ?

This is up to you! Feel free to experiment until you find a cadence that works best for your team. At Lyft, the 3P cadence is:
Each team and manager posts updates every two weeks.
Leadership posts updates every four weeks.

How do I customize the Send to Slack button message?

To customize the message, head to . Click Columns → find the Slack Msg column → Right click and choose Column options. Here’s where you can edit the message template. Type @ to insert values from a column.

The Slack Msg column is a Compose type, which allows you to write dynamic messages. This means each Slack message will be different based on what’s in the table.
For example, in the first sentence of the message, there are two pieces that will change for each row:
Author just submitted the Update name 3P update.”
If you clicked the button on the first row, it would read “Mary Jones just submitted the Maps API infrastructure 3P update”. But if you clicked the button on a different row, it might read “Buck Dubois just submitted the Rocket Rides 3P update.”

Can I change the 3P template to something other than progress, problems, and plans?

Yes. The 3P’s work well for us at Lyft, but feel free to change the to fit your team. If you do change it, remember to keep it simple. This system works best when the template is both:
Short — If it’s too long, people won’t want to write or read the updates; and
Standardized — everyone across the team uses the same template.

How does the personalized inbox work?

In Coda, you can create multiple views of the same table of data. That means that any changes made to the data in one table will also update in all the other views of the same data.
On the page you’ll notice the table, which is a filtered view of . This table is to only show updates where the current user (i.e. the person viewing that page) is a subscriber to that particular initiative. This means that you’ll see a different set of updates in than me, or anybody else. It’s custom to each person!

How does the weekly reminder work?

Every week a Coda sends a message to everyone who has clicked on the 🔔 button. To edit the automation, click on Settings → Automations → Weekly reminder.
You can even customize the message that gets sent in Step 3: Then. Just pop open the formula and change the text that’s wrapped in quotes.
