Security & IT controls

Ensure your data is protected and let your IT team manage and monitor access and usage.
While Notion originally gained popularity for personal productivity, garnering a cult following across productivity communities online, it has turned its attention towards businesses and enterprises in the past few years. Coda, on the other hand, has been focused on working with teams since the beginning. So while both now tout impressive security and IT access chops, Coda tends to be a few steps ahead given its head start to the segment.
Both Coda and Notion have invested in table stakes security and IT features like SSO and SOC 2 compliance, but Coda is further ahead on the long tail of requirements customers tend to want. A few examples:
Share to the groups you already have: Notion allows the creation of Notion user groups but Coda allows you to use the groups you’ve already set up in Google Groups or SCIM.
More robust auditing: Audit event API support allows customers to integrate audit events into their own bespoke or third party auditing software and workflows.
More authentication options and control: Coda offers Microsoft and Magic link login as well as the ability to restrict which authentication method(s) are available to use.
Control and monitoring of sharing: Coda allows admins to control whether or not docs can be shared with the entire company and whether users within the org can have external docs shared with them. It also provides a dashboard to quickly see all publicly shared docs.
Secure extension execution: Coda extensions, Packs, are from the ground up—all code is executed in a secure sandbox that limits the data and services an integration has access to. Unlike a third-party service connected to the Notion API, Coda Packs are unable to sequester your data or communicate with unauthorized external domains. For security conscious organizations, 95% of Notion integrations are non-starters, whereas 95% of Coda packs are no-brainers. Coda has augmented the best-in-class security of its Pack integration platform with the ability for Enterprise admins to configure any integration according to the unique security and compliance requirements of their organization.
Fine grained permissions on folders (coming soon): Coda allows users to organize their Coda docs using folders. Users can set fine grained permissions like view, comment and edit on the folders which will be inherited to all docs contained within the folder.
Legal hold (coming soon): Enterprises can set legal hold on one or more users’ docs.
Superadmin capability: Superadmin functionality in Coda grants IT admins implicit access to all company documents, which is a powerful feature for security and legal investigations.
